NB Winding Down has been based at Elton Moss in Sandbach on the Trent & Mersey Canal since its launch in 2009. Our syndicate has decided to move bases down south a bit to Welton Haven Marina, just near to Watford Gap services, on the Grand Union Canal (Leicester Section). We have a three week trip on WD this time round so we have offered to move the boat to its new base.
We arrived at a damp Elton Moss at about 3PM having had a damp trip across the Pennines. WD was brested up to Festina Lente and they were ready to depart so we moved up a bit and let them out. They set off northwards with Kalista following immediately behind. We unloaded the car and checked the boat over. We found some coal on board but we figured that the weather forecast dictated that we needed more. Rather than risk running out I headed off to Kings Lock chandlers in Middlewich by car (an amazingly quick journey!) and picked up two bags of Taybright. When I got back Pip had unpacked the food and stuff so we set off southbound in the rain.
Bye bye Elton Moss.
Jenny Wren looked very nice in its new colours.
We wended our way along the familiar canal. We decided that we wouldn't buy one of the new houses being built canal side just near to Sandbach. Little Boxes is the song that springs to mind. Onwards through Wheelock and up through locks 66 and 65. By then it was 5.30 ish and we decided to moor up out of earshot of the M6.
We finished unpacking and had penne bolognaise for tea (we forgot to buy any spaghetti!)
We are aiming for Red Bull tomorrow and a rendezvous with Big Frank.
2.5 miles 2 locks
